Agree 100%! After I got divorced and out of the military, I wondered why it seemed every year more and more people felt comfortable being disrespectful towards me. I was because I let depression etc stop me from repeating myself enough to stay in shape, dress properly, and over all carry myself in a way that demands respect conciously and/or subconsciously. That's how I came across your channel, actually.

It will command instant respect. At 56 years old I'm totally ok with thinning the pack of people in my life that can't or won't conform to my standard of respect. I've gone out of my way for many years to respect other peoples standards but not my own. That changes today! Life is short! Why wait! Also, for the 1st time in my life, this year on my birthday I treated myself to a birthday weekend getaway to Los Angeles CA. It felt weird but man it felt great. Love this message John! I don't see, though, what raising your standards or respecting yourself have to do with 'treating yourself'. It's nice to get the more expensive Uber or wine, sure, but you should expect respect from people regardless of what car you arrive in or what wine you drink. And, quite frankly, being financially responsible is a form of self-respect, because it keeps you in a stable position in relation to your future. So I would think twice before making a connection between 'treating yourself' and respecting yourself or demanding respect from others. I'm sure that if you saw some of your viewers' closets, you wouldn't tell us to go out and buy a new shirt, because we already have too many 😅

Hi! I like your channel. I am an Icelander and live in a town called Hafnarfjörður which means fjord for harbor for ship. I am retired, but I really enjoy wearing well-made clothes that fit my personality. I'm going to watch a few episodes because I need to renew my shoes, pants, shirt, t-shirts and socks.

There's a part you are missing. For those who have severe chemical imbalances, whatever you want to call it. Bipolar, manic depression, etc. The hardest part, speaking from experience when you are way up and everything is just the best you could ever have. In your mind already you are trying to stabilize, and pretend even if it's the best thing you have ever done, that it's no big deal, I could have done better. Because being proud of yourself for one moment could cost you your life when the bottom drops out, and you are just left with who you are day to day, even if outsiders would consider you someone to look up to.

I only counted 5 tips, but I was busy trimming my eyebrows :D 1. Outdated clothing styles -jeans with rhinestones -get classic, tailor fit, dark wash jeans -flashing button up shirts with contrasting cuffs -get small dots or small checks, or dark solid colors 2. Not getting skin care (cue Ad) 3. Outdated style shoes, shoes for wrong occasion -no square toes -shiny dress shoes & jeans don't match well 4. Gray hair and grooming -embrace the gray hair, dyeing is too obvious -purple shampoo cancels out the yellow of gray -address wild hairs in nose and brows 5. Having an old man attitude -resisting change, new technology -stop saying "back in my day..." -open your mind and try to accept some new things

A few weeks ago I took my much younger girlfriend with me to my high school reunion. Surprisingly her first response was, after me talking to my old classmates (ca. 50 years old): "Are they your age?! They look like they could be your parents." What indeed surprises me is people, of course with exceptions, just don't seem to care anymore when getting older. 🤷
